Blockchain-consortium R3, which consolidates more than 200 financial institutions, has pondered the possibility of carrying out the IPO, says Bloomberg, citing sources.

According to the interlocutor of the publication, representatives of the consortium discuss this issue with consultants, while potential buyers are already show interest in the proposal.

Why this is important

R3, as experts suggest, has started thinking about issuing securities to the stock market in the light of the growth and development of the blockchain-software market. According to Deloitte’s study, conducted in May, 30% of those financial managers who took part in the survey “plan to allocate resources for the blockchain within one and a half years”, and another 33% said that they had already been using the technology.

The article says that the final decision remained with CEO of R3 David Rutter and investors.

Recall that this week, R3 released a new version of its platform based on the distributed ledger Corda, focused on the needs of business. Corda Enterprise is “optimized to meet the actual needs of business” and includes “firewall of blockchain applications”, which allows the platform to work in corporate data centers and at the same time maintain communication with other Corda nodes.

It was also reported that Alfa-Bank, which is a part of R3, has tested an international banking blockchain platform designed for the exchange of data on corporate clients.

About 40 participants of the blockchain consortium took part in the pilot. In particular, not only banks, but also business structures and regulators of a number of countries participated in the testing. Among them are BNP Paribas, Deutsche Bank, UBS, Societe Generale and ING, as well as central banks of Peru and Colombia.
