USPTO released US retail giant Walmart’s application to patent. The patent employs blockchain based tool for improving package tracking. A new application called “Smart Package” describes a network of lockers for packages, the extent of load of which is tracked with the help of technology of distributed ledger. The company also develops technology of automation of delivery process, but blockchain has been used only in the foodstuff field so far. Let us note the term “public ledger” is often repeated in the patent application. Probably, this means that Walmart will be not the only operator of lockers and will provide other companies with access, too. Let us recall that the company filed an application for a patent describing the usage of blockchain for storage of payment data in April. |
