The Institute of planning and design of Hangzhou in China, together with the local blockchain-association Hangzhou Association of Blockchain Technology, is launching an innovative system designed to improve the efficiency of urban waste processing. The project will explore the possibilities of blockchain to optimize waste management programs, separate collection and recycling. The blockchain-app, developed as a part of the joint project, will record ways of waste recycling, including the amount of recycled waste and transportation details. Presumably, the application will be used by citizens, regulators and organizations that are engaged in environmental protection. According to the researchers of the Institute of planning and design, the blockchain-system is planned to be launched by the end of the year. In Russia, two environmental companies have begun to work on the introduction of blockchain technology in the sphere of accounting of toxic emissions in 2017. In addition, the international corporation IBM, together with Veridium Labs, plans to release Verde tokens tied to quotas for the emission of hydrocarbon into the atmosphere, which, as the co-authors say, will automate the process of their exchange and accounting. |
